Tuesday, December 7th -- Day One

Period One: History 20
Students were given the first twenty minutes of class to work on their 'Dictator Assignment'. The premise of the assignment is they seek to become a dictator. They are to determine how they are going to attain the power they crave, as well as discuss what changes they would make in certain areas such as the economy, military, education, and so on which will enable them to maintain power for a long period of time.
We then moved on to introducing Unit Two: The Totalitarian State with an introduction to Joseph Stalin. We discussed his early life, introduction to radical politics and his quest for power of the Communist Party. Students were asked to write a paragraph based on the notion that they are Stalin and they know that Lenin would prefer to see Leon Trotsky take over the party following his death. What would you do????

Period Two: ELA 9
After some silent reading, the questions from Chapter Eight of the Outsiders. The extensions (letter to Johnny's parents) were then collected. Students were asked to read Raymond Souster's poem "Two Prisoners" and complete some questions based on their understanding of the poem.

Period Three: History 30
Following a Current Events discussion, students were given the period to work on their Great Canadian posters. These are due Friday and today was the LAST class time that will be given.

Period Five: Math 7
The assignment on Lesson 2.5 was collected. We then began to review as we prepare for the exam. Today we focused on reviewing addition of integers and a short assignment was given which is due on Friday.

Period Six: ELA 10
After some silent reading, the stories Wilma and Rules of the Game were discussed. A class discussion was then had on challenges associated with playing sports and the pro's and con's of both individual and team sports. In the end students were to read the poem entitled "Fast Break" and answer some questions for tomorrow.

Period Seven: ELA 9
After some silent reading, students were given the following list of activities that they need to be working on:
1) Complete 'Two Prisoners' for tomorrow.
2) Complete Lessons 32 and 33 of Language Power on Verbs and Verb Tenses for tomorrow.
3) Read Chapter Nine of 'The Outsiders'
