Period One: ELA 10
We discussed the questions and extension based on the short story "The Moose and the Sparrow". We then shared the ideas we had come up with in terms of what we know and what we want to know about the Holocaust. The novel "The Cage" was then started, Chapter's 1 & 2 need to be read for tomorrow.
Period Two: History 30
We started by talking about the differences between First Nations and European cultures. Eventually our discussion led to the idea of land, and the differing views held in regards to the importance of, and use of the land. A handout was reviewed which looked at how the land effects us as Canadians and also pointed out some of the big ideas First Nations hold in regards to the land. Students were then asked to point out the greatest differences between the cultures when discussing land.
Period Three and Four: ELA 9
We discussed the questions based on Duke Redbird's poem "I Am A Canadian". In the end we had a conversation which truly demonstrated why we are so fortunate to live in this great country.
Lesson's #4 & 5 of Language Power were assigned for tomorrow.
After a review of the steps in the Writing Process, we introduced RAFTS as a writing prompt and spent some time looking at it and the way it works.
NOTE: Writing Quiz on Thursday, September 15th
Period Five: Creative Writing 20
We looked over and reviewed the handout on all the requirements for a short story. Studnets were then given an assignment which requires them to write a dialogue between no less than two characters which either results in the sharing of a secret, or an argument.
Period Seven: Creative Writing 20
After some time to work on the assignment given in Period Five, defintions were given of both first and third person point of view. Two forms of third person were shared, omniscient and objective. A scenario was then given to the students which they had to write from three different points of view. Time will be given tomorrow to work on this activity.
