Period One: History 30
We started by reviewing the collision of worldviews between the reformers and oligarchies in both Upper and Lower Canada in the early twentieth century. We then looked at some of the specific problems that existed in each of the colonies. An assignment based on this information was given out as well. Also the propoganda assignments were collected. Those still yet to hand theirs in should do so no later than tomorrow. The handout if needed is available on my Wiki.
Period Two: ELA 9
After some silent reading, students were given one last class to work on their Remembrance Day Writing. This is due for Monday.
Period Three/Four: ELA 20
We started be returning the exams based on Part One of "To Kill a Mockingbird". I would just like to say that these exams were done very well by all as a 79% class average would attest. We then talked about some of the reasons why youth disagree with their parents, and some strategies they presently use or have used in the past as a means of getting their way. This lead into a reading of James Collier's essay "How to Do Battle with Grown - Ups" which needs to be read for tomorrow. Students were also asked to pick out Collier's four main points from the essay.
Period Five: Math 7
We corrected the assignment based on Lesson 1.8 as a class. To ensure all is well, an additional two questions, #15 and 16 were assigned for tomorrow.
Period Six: ELA 20
This was our once a cycle read/homework/catch up period.
Period Seven: ELA 10
We discussed Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell Tale Heart" and watched short animated version of the story. We then discussed the events of chapters 8, 9, and 10 of "The Chrysalids". The Venn diagram which compares/contrasts Uncle Axel with Joseph Strorm is due for tomorrow.
OTHER NEWS:
A big thank you to all students who brought in magazine sales today. The total sales exceeds $12, 000 which means it looks like my legs will be waxed at some point in the near future. Teachers Mr. Chapman and Mr. Rostotski can also expect a pie in the face soon.
School clothing will continue to be sold this week. It is available to try on and purchase on Thursday and Friday at lunch in Mr. Morins room.

Monday, October 25th -- Day Three
Period One: ELA 9
After some silent reading, we corrected the Lanuage Power that was assigned on Friday. The students then went to the library for a short presentation.
Period Three: ELA 20
The students wrote an examination on Part One of "To Kill a Mockingbird".
Period Four: ELA 10
The students were given this class to read on in the novel "The Chrysalids"
Period Five: History 20
Students not completed the exam from this morning were given this time to complete. Those done were given a handout on Weapons of War along with a series of questions. These are to be done for next class. This handout is available on my wiki (top left corner)
Period Six: ELA 10

Wednesday, October 20th -- Day Six
Period One:
Grade Seven to Twelve's watched a video in the gymnasium entitled "Do You Really Know Me?" This was a video focusing on getting to know people prior to making judgements about that individual. It is my hope that our students got something from this rather powerful video.
Period Two: ELA 10
We started by discussing the questions based on Chapter's Six and Seven of 'The Chrysalids'. From this point the extensions based on these chapters were collected. Students were given the remainder of class time to work on their Remembrance Day Literature.
Period Three: ELA 9
After some silent reading, the Remembrance Day Literature was introduced. They students have been assigned an essay ranging between 250 and 500 words. They can write a poem for extra credit if they choose bu the essay is an assigned activity. Students were given the choice of working on their Portrait or Remembrance Day.
Period Four: ELA 20
Work Period.
Period Five: History 20
We started by reviewing the material of last class; that being realities of life in the trenches which included trench foot, rats, and lice. We looked at another issue with this type of life, that being food which was far from appealing in nature. We then started our investigation of weapons in the war by looking at the machine gun. After a short interactive activity in which we sought to demonstrate the power of the machine gun as compared to the individual gun, we looked in particular at what made the machine gun so powerful and the effect that it had on trench warfare. We will continur this investigation tomorrow with a look at artillery and other modern technologies in terms of 1914.
Period Six: ELA 10
Work /Reading /Catch - Up period.

After a less than exciting Current Events discussion the students spent the remainder of the period working on their propoganda assignment.
OTHER NEWS:
A job well done by the Grade 4 - 6 Volleyball team yesterdy in Kamsack. They played four, fifteen minute sets and won all four. The same team is hosting Preeceville today after school.
The Senior Girls Volleyball team is on the road today as they are travelling to Sturgis to play Sturgis and K.C.I. in a mini tournament.
Education Week continues tomorrow. The Spirit Day is School Color Day. An open house will be set up in the gym in the afternoon which will display tables for each of the extra - curricular groups in the school. Stop by for coffee and a visit between 12: 30 and 3:30.

Tuesday, October 19th -- Day Five
Period One: History 30
We started the class by discussing the questions from yesterday's discussion on the differences between the Reformers and Oligarchies and their view of how the political process should be carried out. We then moved onto look at some of the factors that helped to ensure the Oligarchy maintain most of the control and power which included electoral practices and and restrictions on certain portions of the population from equal access to involvement in the decision making process. Notes are available on my Wiki.
Period Two: ELA 9
We started with some silent reading. Students were then given some paper on which they are to create their personal essay in pictures and images as opposed to words. This is not due for tomorrow.
Period Three/Four: ELA 20
Period Three started with the distribution of questions and activities based on yesterday's short story "Penny in the Dust" by Ernest Buckler. These questions are due tomorrow. At the onset of Period Four, Remembrance Day writing was introduced. Students were assigned the writing of an essay on this topic which neds ot be no less than 500 words in length and no more than 800.
Penny in the Dust activities are due tomorrow.
Period Five: Math 7
We spent this period correcting Lesson 1.6.
Period Six: ELA 10
Students were given the option of either reading ahead in `The Chrysalids`or starting on their Remembrance Day literature.
Period Seven: Math 7
This period started with the use of manipulatives (tiles) to solve algebraic equations. After a couple of examples done together as a class, Page 41, #1 a,b,c,d,e,f were assigned for Thursday.
OTHER NEWS:
The Junior Boys Volleyball team travelled to Kamsack yesterday and won fours sets against their opponents from K.C.I.
Education Week continues tomorrow. Our spirit day is Anti - Bully Day. Staff and students are encouraged to wear pink or white to show their support against bullying. The Grade 7 - 12 students will also watch a video in the gym on bullying.

Monday, October 18th -- Day Four
Period One: History 30
A pretty good Current Events discussion started the class. We then took the time to ensure we all had the necessary handouts required for this class as an exam has been set for next Friday. From there we looked at the collision of the worldviews between the oligarchies (elite) and reformers (common man) in terms of decision making and day to day running of British North America. Students were given a short assignment to complete on this topic that is due for tomorrow. The handout with this information is available on my Wiki.
Period Two: ELA 9
Following some silent reading, assignments based on the short story "Borders" was collected. We then took the time to look at some pictures that are being used as Self - Portraits. Further investigation and discussion led us to identify a great deal more about the artist than originally thought; ideas such as culture, famliy history, personal attributes, etc. As such students were asked to start thinking about how they would share this type of information through art. They are to begin their own self portrait tomorrow.
Period Three/Four: ELA 20
Period Three was set aside for students to work on their Autobiography assignment. While it is not due until January, it is my strong recommendation to be working on this assignment between now and then as leaving an assignment of this size to the last minute will make it that much more difficult.
Period Four saw us orally correct the questions related to Chapters Nine & Ten of "To Kill a Mockingbird". We then discussed the events of Chapter Eleven which brought us to the conclusion of Part One of the novel. As such an exam for Part One and othet literature was set for this Friday. A review and outline will come tomorrow.
Period Five: Math 7
The assignment based on 1.6 was collected. We looked at reading and writing equations. After some drill and practice as a class, Pages. 36/37 were assigned for tomorrow.
Period Six: ELA 20

A very good weekend for the Norquay School Athletics. Our Senior Girls placed second at a tournament in Canora; the Junior Boys lost in the Semi - Final's in Kamsack. Tyrell Newcombe placed 32nd in Midget Boys at Provincial Cross Country. Edward Altman placed 46th in the same race. Congratulations to all of our sporting programs on a vey succesful weekend.
The Junior Boys will look to continue with their good luck today as they travel to Kamsack to take on K.C.I.
Tomorrow is the second of four magazine collection dates. Any orders can be handed into your homeroom teacher tomorrow.
This is Education Week throughout the province. A spirit week is taking place in conjunction with the week's activities. Tomorrow is Celebrity Day; dress as your favorite celebrity but please keep it school appropriate.
A yearbook meeting will take place tomorrow at 12:30 in the Home Ec. Lab.
Today and tomorrow will see the second round of Drama auditions take place. See the schedule outside of the I.A. shop to see when you are scheduled in.
Lastly, a depressing weekend to be a Rider Fan but let's not lose faith........

Following some silent reading, we corrected the Language Power assignment from yesterday. The "I Am..." poems were then returned; a good job by all on this assignment. Students were to have read the short story entitled "Borders" by Thomas King. Students were to complete Questions 1, a, b and Write a decsriptive paragraph of Latetia's mother. These assignments are due for Monday.

Students were given an assignment based on Chapters Nine and Ten of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. These assignments are to be done for Monday, as well as have read to the conclusion of Part One of the novel which is to the end of Chapter Eleven.

Thursday, October 14th -- Day Two
Period One: ELA 10
The research assignments are due on Monday. With this in mind the students were given one last class to work on it. No more class time will be given so if you are not completed this assignment, make sure to set time aside between now and Monday to complete.
Period Two: History 20
We quickly reviewed the theatres of war that existed during World War I. We then discussed what the terms 'total war' and 'attrition' meant, and how they were related to the events of World War I. This led into a handout that discussed these ideas, along with providing a little more information about the trenches to the students. This handout entitled "Total War and Attrition" can be found at mrhmorin.wikispaces.com, or by clicking on the assignment link in the top left hand corner. We also looked at two of three diagrams of the trenches, one of how the trenches were set up to allow for "No Man's Land' in between them, and the second was on overhead view of the first two lines of a trench; those being the front line, and support line.

We kept busy as the students worked towards completing several things; all of which are due tomorrow. They are in order:
