A good weekend of turkey offset by a horrible weekend of Rider football...Anyway, on to important matters....
Period One/Two: ELA 10
After some silent reading, we talked about the premise of the novel, "The Chrysalids", that being the notion of the world coming to an end following a nuclear war. This led to the reading of a short story that alse uses this premise as the background information. Students were to read the story and complete the assignment that went with it. They were also to read up to the end of Chapter Seven in "The Chrysalids"
Period Three: ELA 9
Following some silent reading we moved on to collect the "I Am...." poems. Some are still outstanding and should be handed in ASAP. We then assigned reading of the short story "The Jade Peony" out of the Crossroads anthology. Students are to read the story as well as complete questions/activites 1 and 2 on P. 21.
Period Four: ELA 20
We started by collecting the acitvities associated with Tennessee William's essay "The Catastrophe of Success". Students were then given time to read Chapters 9 & 10 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" for tomorrow. If done they were allowed time to work on their autobiography assignment.
Period Five: History 20
Following a brief Current Events discussion, we moved on and allowed the students some time to work on their journal entry on life in the trenches. This is due for tomorrow for those who did not hand it in already. We then reviewed the concept of 'The Race to the Sea" and its impact on Europe. We wrapped up the class by looking at Christmas, 1914 and the Allied Naval Blockade. Students were asked to think, and write the manner in which they believe Germany would have been effected by the Blockade.
Period Six: ELA 10
This was the once in a cycle period for homework, reading, catching up, etc.
Period Seven: History 30
Current Events discussion kicked off the class. We then looked at and discussed the assignment based on The Constitutional Act of 1791. Students were then asked to make a timeline of important events and acts starting with the Seven Years' War and moving up to the Constitutional Act. They are to discuss the how and why these acts came to be, their impact on British North American society as well as the manner in which it has impacted Canada up to the present. A few minutes will be allotted to finish this tomorrow.
